The beginning

The story behind FIGALOS.

My relationship with the olive tree did not begin as a business idea. It is part of my family history and my childhood memories.

My grandfather, Dionysios Papaioannou, operated an olive mill in Nea Figaleia. From an early age, I took part in beating the branches and gathering the olives, learning first-hand about the fruit, the effort of the harvest and the distinctive value of our region’s Koroneiki variety.

Those experiences taught me that olive oil quality begins in the grove: with caring for the trees, harvesting carefully and respecting both the fruit and the land.

FIGALOS continues this personal journey. My aim is for its name to stand for a pure product with a clear origin, consistency and a genuine commitment to quality.

The variety

Olive oil from the Koroneiki variety

The Koroneiki olive variety is at the heart of FIGALOS. Our family project in Ilia brings together care for the grove and our personal story. We will describe the flavour and quality characteristics of our olive oil using information from the particular harvest.
